DER ZYKLUS - Cherenkov-Radiation EP released

http://www.boomkat.com/artist.cfm?a=1253

'Drexciyan descendant Gerlad Donald in his Heinrich Mueller guise shares the results of his recent laboratory experiments on the 'Cerenkov Radiation' E.P for Frustrated Funk. As Der Zyklus, Herr Mueller's releases have consistently featured among our favourite Drexciyan related projects, and the latest is no different, ranking amongst his most clinical executions to date. The A-side features some typically Kraftwerkian methodology, with ice cold synthlines fixed to skeletal electro rhythm science on 'Quasar', while the B-side explores quantum physics with 'Roche limit' (which according to wikipedia is defined as "the distance within which a celestial body, held together only by its own gravity, will disintergrate due to a second celestial body's todal forces exceeding the first body's gravitational self attraction" understood?) Pure machine soul for all you robot freeeks...'

love it!

New Dopplereffekt album on the way!

Dopplereffekt - 'Calabi-Yau' album on way on www.rephlex.com records

New Dopplereffekt album on the way from long time supporters Rephlex Records. ‘Calabi-Yau Spaces’ is listed on their site to be released on LP and CD on 5th MARCH 2007. This will make it the first European release from Dopplereffekt not to appear on Gigolo Records but, on the face of the title alone, the only available info on it I have, it appears more than likely that it will be consistent in continuing its predecessors, 2003’s ‘Linear Accelerator’, scientific/theoretical physics theme.

This is huge news, I literally can't wait!

Urban Tribe - Acceptable Side Effects

Is out now so I recommend you check the 3 minute long samples on the boomkat link here:
http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=31892

Sounds great to me. I love anything Stingray does, has a signature sound I can spot a mile off....diggidy dope beats

Boomkat spiel:
"The result of further laboratory experimentation, 'Acceptable side effects' is Urban Tribe's second instalment of abstract Detroit booty for Rephlex. Reputedly the first Detroit DJ to play electro trax on 45 instead of 33 to club crowds, his skills as DJ Stingray are held in high regard within the 313 district and beyond for creating a unique hyperactive funk which forces the listener/dancer to move at half-speed, much like today's current dubstep styles, only with a helluva lot more funk. He has brought this style into his own productions, with the intense acid jit of '110101', or the stunning album closer 'tangent', in both cases working his hardware only setup into unbelievably tight and complex patterns which could only have emerged from this man. What separates this album from the freaked electro darkness of 'authorized clinical trials' is the the use of signature dystopian Drexciyan melodies and more variation in tempos, perfectly displayed on the slow grind of 'freq scan' or 'hostile takeover'. In fact I'd go as far as saying this is an altogether more engaging album than '...clinical trials' due to these factors. The feeling of older Urban Tribe classics such as his split with The Other People Place or the legendary 'covert action' are much more present and correct. I can see this becoming an end of year favourite already."

Cosmic Force presents Studio X - Retrospective 1996-2002 mixed by Drexciyan Dj Stingray

Available at clone.nl

Cosmic Force made a name in the techno and electro scene in the late and mid 90's with their releases on Clone records. At times most people were into boring house and techno Cosmic Force was dropping some hydraulic electro-techno tracks! These early releases are very rare by now and this inspired Dj Stringray and Cosmic Force to do a special mix album full of rare and deleted Cosmic Force tracks. And of course the official Drexciya Dj Stingray is one of the best dj's to do this job. Rocking Drexciyan inspired electro-techno tracks with bubbling analogue basslines, sharp beats and frantic melodies. Pure and raw sounds that rock hard! It sounds like dancemusic from another world... but it defenitely is from our surface.. and it's here to stay! These tracks, recorded in the mid/late 90's, still sound fresher then most of the electro released today. A nice document by Cosmic Force and Dj Stingray!

Drexciyan Clones: UHU and Martin Matiske

From Warpmart:
From the promotional information for this 12": 'When you think of the future, what do you imagine? For -=UHU=- our future is meant to bring the rise and the triumph of the machines over mankind. We will have a fully automatized style of living, and robots will think for us." Yep sounds like a release from the mysterious entity behind Drexciya, Dopplereffekt, Der Zyklus, Arpanet to both ears and eyes judging from this information. It's a good one in a fast Drexciya style gone digital. http://www.discogs.com/release/556513
According to other information on the web though, UHU, -=Universal Human Underground=- is GATIS PASTARS from Latvia.

On the same subject, another very Dopplereffekt-esque Gigolo release is the Martin Matiske 12" - Stars and Galaxy which he released when he was just 14 years old. Expect to hear more from this kid as he's nearly old enough to actually play in clubs. http://www.discogs.com/release/60438

New Mueller mix

Coming in May: Tresor.224EP - Cisco Ferreira – T.R.I.N.I.T.Y. Remixes. Restyling 3 fierce tracks from Cisco’s latest Tresor album, with expertise from Chris Liebing, Adam Beyer, Herz and Heinrich Muller. This 12” is guaranteed to knock off some socks… Release in mid-May.

The Advent’s brilliant “Sketches” recordings on Tresor were unmistakably essential in the progression of tough, intelligent techno music from the 1990’s into the new century. Cisco Ferreira challenged the dance music establishment from the underground and continues to deliver his blistering style well into the first decade, as demonstrated with gusto on his 2005 Tresor album “T.R.I.N.I.T.Y.” (Tresor.219). With its wall-of-sound penchant for no-nonsense, in-your-face techno music for purists, Ferreira naturally took this penchant into the most respected leagues of electronic music’s world of production and remixing, when he decided to deliver three tracks from his album into the hands of four international experts.

The first side of this four-track 12” EP sends a clear message: Swedish techno continues to be at the forefront of techno music production, and Adam Beyer’s phenomenal reputation exemplifies this with bravura. Beyer sends the deep, temple-bound surge of “Pagodas” into a dub-trenched and clenched steer towards his Drumcode structure and precision. Fans of Beyer can expect a wicked, breathing escape from his signature loop style. Another top Swedish artist, producer and remixer Pierre Jerksten aka Hertz takes Ferreira’s elektro mood on “Womans Scent” from a vocally-lead seduction groove to some down-to-the-bone dance floor treatment. The crisp, clean production grabs you by your own senses and echoes Hertz’s seamless work on his respected Q-Park label.

Side B features Frankfurt’s prodigy Chris Liebing who tackles the solid percussion of Ferreira’s homage to Tresor Club on “Tresor West”. Liebing, no stranger to Tresor Club fans, is also no stranger to exact, rigorous colliding of techno beats, distributing percussive layers throughout the remix and earning a thumbs up. Respect also goes out to Heinrich Muller, who Ferreira turned to for a second re-working of his track “Womans Scent” and its spicy nod to 80’s synth wave. Muller, who has released tracks on the Gigolo label, sends similar signals with his perky remix, injecting his distinct style of Detroit electro-minimalism to form a tight and unique treatment. Watch out: the aliens have hit the dancefloor.

Tracklist:
A1. Pagodas (Adam Beyer Remix) - 6:34
A2. Womans Scent (Hertz Remix) - 6:01
B1. Tresor West (Chris Liebing Remix) - 7:14
B2. Womans Scent (Heinrich Muller Remix) – 4:49

Heinrich Mueller resurfaces

Duplex - P.O.M. (Heinrich Mueller / Duplex remixes)
A1 P.O.M. (Time Dilation Mix 1)
A2 P.O.M. (Time Dilation Mix 2)
B1 P.O.M. (Mateschitz Mix)
B2 P.O.M. (Spiegelreflex Mix)

From http://www.clone.nl
Heinrich Mueller remixed two tracks of the forthcoming Duplex album (''Late Night Driving'') in his very special way and is (as usual) a few steps ahead of the pack and (as always) tries to push the bounderies of dance music!. On this release he delivers two deep advanced electro remixes of ''Play Our Music''. To make the circle round Duplex remixes one of the two P.O.M. remixes into a classic Direct Beat influenced electro track. A steady piece of music which shakes like crazy! Sit tight for the next remix ep!

Re-releases / Re-issues

I've just been wondering how many more re-releases we're going to see of Drexciya and their related projects.

Usually wherever you look, except ebay of course, they've been long sold out and very hard to get but lately I've seen Neptunes Lair restocked and today Shifted Phases was restocked. Also I think last year there was Glass Domain, Life After Mutation [l.a.m] and Deep Sea Dweller.

I think this is a really good sign for us electro lovers and I thank the labels for doing this for the fans of their music.
Personally I'd love to get a copy of Elecktroid's Elektroworld album as its truly a very rare thing to find today and rightly asks big bucks. Also the 'Uknown Aquazone' is pretty high on my list.
Probably the most interesting possibility could be the re-issue of Drexciya's first ever release named "Clarence G - Hyperspace Sound Lab" which is a truly dope hip hop EP mixed with pure aquatic electro. One of the rarest records out there of course but I'd love to see it get the treatment!!

Is there any Drexciyan-related project or album you'd like to get or see released again??

Killer killer twelve with an absolutely crushing stuuttered electro remix from the awesome Mr Oizo and an aquatic mix from Arpanet (aka Der Zyklus, Dopplereffekt). - a must for true Electro lovers. Tip!

Arpanet mix is really nice and the Oizo is damn funky too, check it

Yes, the sound of Drexciya lives on. While not related to this artist directly, it is clear that the spirit of James' music has permeated the cosmic ether and has made an indelible influence on all electro consciousness.
Well worth picking up.

Just came across this fairly recent addition to the interweb:
http://drexciyaresearchlab.blogspot.com/

Mostly one drexciyen follower's hypotheses, musings and speculations over the material or the clues. Also collects the interviews that are out there and an archived link to the long gone Dimensional Waves page: http://www.royaltech.net/ridedimensionalwaves/

I wonder if the Drexciyen Aqua Gear clothing line ever got off the ground (or more fittingly, out of the water).

Has anyone ever tried emailing any of the addresses printed on a few of the albums?

Ultradyne - Cities in Retro

BlackLabel [Dutch Electro label] presents a 'lost' Ultradyne release - previously only available as promo copy (Craft Recs. 26 fom 1997) of the now defunkt Sabotage/Craft label. Originally called 'Cities In Ruin & Beings Laid To Waste', now re-released as 'Cities In Retro'.
--

I picked this up over the weekend thinking it was something new, only to realize it's just a re-issue (and I already have the original promo so there was no need for me to buy this). I notice they only include four tracks - I wonder why they didn't include all 5 tracks from the original? Maybe to keep something exclusive to the original?

Pi Gao Movement - Initial Situation Report

[from the Pi Gao Movement mailing list]

Release News

Pi Gao Movement, the label that brings you the machinations of the group Ultradyne, presents another project: Vidrio.

Vidrio is the gold of our society, the one we protect in order to visualize our daily lies. We are fed media with it, we are able to kill in its scope, and we use it to aid our eyes. Yet in all of the good and evil Vidrio sees and displays, Vidrio remains a sociopath, uncaring and bitterly innocent. Camouflage is my weapon.

Title: Glass Slavery
Format: 12”
Matrix #: PGM006

Track Listing:
A1 – Excelsior
A2 – Glass Hammers
B1 – Predator
B2 – Deep Six

Glass Slavery depicts our evolution from an industrial might to a society muddled by excessive visual cortex stimulation, our pleasure centers overriding our need to excel. The true nature of the inanimate beast of glass via dark rhythms is reminiscent of martial law in the audio spectrum, marching us through our daily trials. We are guided by its programming to live a cocooned existence. Glass Slavery portrays the virtual reality we have fashioned for ourselves. Though we do not wield the pickaxe and molten ore from the past, the hammers that permeate our lives are changing our ideologies and what we value. This is a possible future in which we start to form a symbiotic relationship with our virtual master. We must understand that we are slaves to our ego complex; until we accept our primal need for pleasure, can the pain of isolation from media input become a necessary evil. Take solace from the system if you chose not to fight.

For more information on this project, please email vidrio@pigaomovement.com.

This release will be distributed exclusively by Submerge.

http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=16904

This track is, like it's title, killa. check out the preview mp3, I just ordered it right now as theres not many copies available.
There is also another release by the Aquanauts out called Titanic but I've not heard any samples of it.

This release, however, kicks ass. Love the vocals, the bassline, the aquatic effects, its a very sinister sounding release that eats kandy kids for breakfast... what do you think?

Don't you think all the ideas, concepts and imagination behind the music could transmit into an amazing film?!
I mean, yeah I'm geeking out for a second but ooooooh the possibilities.
I'd love to create music videos for some of the tracks.....any of you people wanna help make a film? lol, for some reason last time I heard Lab Rat XL track 3 I thought it'd translate well into some kind of chase video, like a bike or hovercraft speeding through trees or small roads on some kind of tropical planet......my brain jus salivates at the thought....

Just a heads up for those who might not know.

There is a new Der Zylus 12", Biometric ID, out on Clone Records which is a teaser for an upcoming album, Biometry. Here's the press release from the Clone site:

Heinrich Mueller comes after more then one year of silence with new results from the Dataphysix sound laboratories. Working on ways to reflect new (biological) technologies in music. For this album he has done this with the optical help of Biometric Systems Gmbh. in Bayern, Germany. The results are 11 tracks who are a brilliant abstract reflection of the new technologies and the effective practical use of these technics in our daily live. Heinrich Mueller takes his musical journey further away from his welknown early Dopplereffekt releases and several side projects and merges those early projects with hi-technology applications available for modern studio engineering. The full length album shows the dark emotions, but at the same time the energetic and positive feelings which come with new technological applications. These 11 tracks are a selection of musical arrangements with and without rhythmical structures. It’s a collection of abstract interpretations of feelings during the past period of his life while he has been working on this album and gathering information about new scientifical applications in general and discovering new information about the possibilities of biometrical identification.

Also, look out for a new Dynarec album coming soon on Nature Records.

Interview from Melody Maker, 1995

Old Drexciya Interview from Melody Maker

Posted by: KJ on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 - 12:40 PM MEST on www.technotourist.org

Interviews Daveg's weblog posted an old interview with the Legendary Drexciya that was published in 1995. The article from Meldody Maker came in the Orbit section of the magazine and is one of the rare interviews with James Stinson (RIP). James talked about the now legenday Journey Home EP on Warp, techno, DJing, the Drexciya philosophy and the fight against the 'Caucasian persuasion'.

http://www.dorja.com/~daveg/entries/2004/10/14/drexciya-interview-from-melody-maker-1995/

An interview with Drexciya from the “Orbit” section of the Jan. 14, 1995 Melody Maker (reprinted without permission). All references to Drexcia corrected to Drexciya. Saved here in my blog for archival purposes.

The Unknown Aquazone

The release of Chapter Five in the much sought-after Drexciya series is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Dave Mothersole is granted a rare ear-bashing from the Detroit team.

Drexciya are not your normal techno act. Having been together for some 10 years, they’ve released just five records. Fiercely independent and highly opinionated, they’re the ultimate perfectionists, working in total secrecy, concealing their identities and discreetly putting out some of the most outstanding, unusual, beautiful and disturbing electronic music ever committed to vinyl.

Their “Journey Home EP", out this week on Warp, has already been hailed as one of the most important releases of the Nineties.

In a rare interview, one half of Drexcyia, James - he wouldn’t reveal his second name - talks about techno, DJing, the Drexciya philosophy and the fight against the “Caucasian persuasion".

Off To Battle

“As far as I’m concerned, there isn’t anybody out there making original Detroit techno - apart from us, and that’s not being arrogant. It’s a plain and simple fact. A lot of people making so-called techno don’t understand where it came from and what it’s all about. I know this stuff; I’ve been doing it for a long time. I’ve been with the real deal, in the trenches, since this shit was born out of the womb. But so many people have come in and stepped over the name of original techno and toned it down. And that’s why were here: it’s time to turn up the heat.”

‘The Caucasian Persuasion’

“Ever since the blues and early jazz, black music has been stolen and exploited. It pisses me off that we let it happen. It’s
a political thing; everybody talks about it under their breath, but they don’t come out and say anything about it. As far as I’m concerned, Richie Hawtin, Moby, and all the rest of ‘em can do what they want, but don’t step into my house if you don’t respect it. Don’t even call what you do ‘techno’! I don’t want to hear anybody saying Richie started any damned thing, ‘cos he ain’t started shit. All he did was step in with his money and his Caucasian persuasion and put himself on the market, and now he’s got all these kids riding his jock. We never had rich backgrounds; we were working jobs for $4.25 an hour. Our mamas never gave us money to buy keyboards and put records out. We work for our stuff. That’s why there’s a big difference in the music.

“Why do Richie and his Plus 8 family come down here and throw parties in downtown Detroit? He brings in all these kids from the suburbs and from Canada, and that shows a lack of respect. I’ve been to every one of those parties and I’ve never heard an Underground Resistance record, a Cybotron record, a Model 500 record or an Eddie Fowlkes record. It’s a total lack of respect, and it’s got to stop.”

DJ Hype

“Only guys like Leon and Jeff Mills know how to spin. Serious, man, you have DJs who mix sound like a galloping horse. Give ‘em a record that doesn’t have a 4/4 beat and they can’t handle it; their fingers get all tied up and they get all confused. C’mon, you gotta know those records. You got to have quick reflexes and make that record talk. Make those turntables work; you got to see smoke coming off those suckers. These guys fly around the world and people call ‘em geniuses, and they don’t even warm those decks up - they’re still cold after a whole night. They’re just fader flippers.”

Deep Sea Dwellers - The Drexciya Philosophy

“The reason why we give alot of our tracks aquatic titles is because waves are constantly changing. It moves in so many different directions, and that’s the way we see our music. It doesn’t go straight forward. It takes you on an adventure. We record all our stuff live. You have to capture that moment, that spirit, that energy. We could never recreate one of our records. Every Drexciya record is different. We’re dealing with your personality, your emotions. We try to get you to open your mind up and listen to the sounds, and hopefully then you can paint a picture in your mind. That’s what it’s all about.”
